Sunday Liturgy

Sunday Liturgy

To provide all members of the parish an opportunity to participate in these ministries, individual parishioners may only participate in one of the following six liturgical ministries.

Altar Servers

Contacts: Fr. Searby, 703-494-4008, jrsearby@gmail.com, Joe & Laura Arango, 703-670-8046, aramrd@earthlink.net

Boys and girls in the 4th grade or above are needed to assist with the celebration of the Mass on a rotating basis on Sundays, Holy Days, and special liturgies. The requirements are first, that you attend the regular training session and second, that you are willing to arrive 15 minutes before the start of Mass when scheduled.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Contacts: Fr. Meng, 703-494-4008, Kevin Foley, 703-494-4668, Kevin.Foley@ngc.com

Ministers assist the celebrant with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ to the community at the Sunday Liturgy. Some of the requirements are a willingness to rotate your service at all Masses, a willingness to serve every other Sunday, a commitment to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of Mass, a commitment to attend the Diocesan Training Session in May, and other training as the need arises. Schedule accommodations are made for families with members in other ministries, for instance, Lectors, Ushers, & Altar Servers.

Readers

Contact: Rob & Eileen Warner, smileen1@comcast.net

Join in proclaiming the Word of the Lord! Readers proclaim the Old and New Testament readings (other than the Gospel) and serve as commentators for weekend, holy day, and special liturgies. Must be willing not only to be assigned to any weekend Mass (special conditions considered, e.g. children’s participation in CLW or need of church baby-sitting services); but also to volunteer for holy days/special liturgies. Scheduling considerations include regard of family members serving in other ministries, e.g. ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, altar servers. Intent is, as much as possible, to have families celebrate liturgy together. Previous experience not required (training and lector preparation book provided), but there is an annual, mandatory meeting in October. Normally scheduled to read/commentate approximately every other week depending on total number of readers.

Ushers

Contact: Joe Pevarnik, 703-491-8181, pevarnik96@comcast.net

People are needed to: make others feel welcome, assist in seating, collect offering, distribute bulletins, and clean-up the pews after Mass. There is a need for volunteers at all Masses. Ushers are scheduled on a periodic basis for a Mass time of their choice. Assistance at occasional Holy Day Masses is welcomed. The requirements are a willingness to 1) arrive 20 minutes before scheduled Mass and 2) help set the tone for people coming to Mass by being warm and friendly. This ministry is open to men, women, teens, and families.
